Bendigo Health (BH) is a multi-campus regional health care facility providing comprehensive health services (acute, aged, residential, rehabilitation and psychiatric) to residents of the Loddon Mallee region in Victoria – an area covering 25% of the state’s landmass.
We amalgamated in July 1995 and have undergone continuous redevelopment since that time. We have state-of-the-art facilities in many of our services and have achieved world’s best practice in a number of areas including rehabilitation. April 2002 saw the opening of the Peter McCallum Radiotherapy Unit on our acute campus. BH opened a second 60-bed nursing home (Joan Pinder Nursing Home) in January 2004 and in July of that year we opened a clinical medical school in partnership with Monash Medical Centre. In 2005 we opened a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and a Physiotherapy School. March 2006 saw the opening of our MRI services with other new services and improvements currently being developed or planned for the future.
The acute campus (Bendigo Hospital) is the regional referral base, providing inpatient services to more than 26,000 inpatients annually. With the exception of neurosurgery and cardiac surgery, we offer all surgical specialties from our 5-theatre operating suite. We have a 12-bed critical care unit and our Emergency Department, treating some 35,000 patients per year, features the Tynan-Eyre Resuscitation Room. Maternity Services oversees the delivery of approximately 1,000 babies per year.
Anne Caudle Campus (ACC) provides aged, residential, community and outpatient services. It features a 60-bed rehabilitation unit and the John Lindell Rehabilitation Unit that provides outpatient rehabilitation services in a variety of disciplines. There are 60 residential care beds on the campus as well. Local and regional community services, home assessment and home support services are managed from the ACC site.
Our excellent Psychiatric Services is located on a number of sites throughout Bendigo and the region. Services include adult, aged, child & adolescent and Crisis Assessment Team/Mobile Support. A 24-bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit is located on the acute campus. Case management teams are located in Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca, Castlemaine, Maryborough & Kyneton.
Bendigo Health has a commitment to staff education and professional development opportunities for staff in a range of areas from computers to first aid to leadership & management.
With approximately 3,000 staff located on 12 different locations, we are a diverse organisation. We are continually looking to improve our services, develop new initiatives and focus on the future. Our vision is to be recognised as a centre of excellence in rural health.
